Acknowledge Your Dark Side (Weekly Challenger 2/23/2009)
Monday, February 23rd, 2009Everyone has certain characteristics they prefer not to admit to - parts of themselves and their character that aren’t very nice. People try to hide these characteristics from themselves and from others. But the truth is, that strategy doesn’t work very well, and it takes a lot of effort.
Debbie Ford, in her book The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, likens this attempt to hide these so-called “negative” traits to carrying a grapefruit everywhere you go while trying to keep it out of sight. Your dark side is there, and it’s visible to everyone. The more you try to hide it, the more you draw attention to it.
This week, start noticing those things about yourself that you really don’t like - attitudes, emotions, responses, whatever. These are all part of you. (Though remember, self-knowledge doesn’t mean you can use it as an excuse!)
