Acknowledge Your Dark Side (Weekly Challenger 2/23/2009)

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Everyone has certain characteristics they prefer not to admit to - parts of themselves and their character that aren’t very nice. People try to hide these characteristics from themselves and from others. But the truth is, that strategy doesn’t work very well, and it takes a lot of effort.

Debbie Ford, in her book The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, likens this attempt to hide these so-called “negative” traits to carrying a grapefruit everywhere you go while trying to keep it out of sight. Your dark side is there, and it’s visible to everyone. The more you try to hide it, the more you draw attention to it.

This week, start noticing those things about yourself that you really don’t like - attitudes, emotions, responses, whatever. These are all part of you. (Though remember, self-knowledge doesn’t mean you can use it as an excuse!)

Theme for the Year: Health in All Things (Weekly Challenger 2/16/2009)

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I’m going to close this series by sharing my own theme for the year. After all, I’ve been sharing everyone else’s themes, so it only seems right that I share mine. It is “health in all things.” I am going to pay attention to my physical, emotional and spiritual health, the health of my business, the health of my family, the health of my relationships. It’s not about growing them, or increasing or changing, but about making healthy choices in all areas of my life.

How healthy is your life? What areas of your life need attention?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I actually got this theme from Facebook—told you Facebook was great! Make it a point to laugh out loud every day. Laughter is healthy, and finding the humor and fun in life makes life so much more enjoyable. How will you find laughter in your life this week?

Theme for the Year: Look for the Miracle (Weekly Challenger 2/2/2009)

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Happy Groundhog Day! Are we going to have six more weeks of winter? Who knows?

A Weekly Challenger reader, S.T., is going to look for the miracle in every day of the year. She writes, “Miracles do happen, every day, and I am going to focus on recognizing them and showing gratitude.”

That’s so true! I consider it a miracle that I can flip a switch and light up a room, or that I can plant a tiny, miniscule seed and end up with a carrot. Life is amazing, and we so often overlook the magic in everyday life.So this week, look for the miracle in every day.
